TMJ Treatments to Provide You with Relief from Jaw Pain

We offer non-surgical treatments to alleviate jaw pain and discomfort.

TMJ and Chronic Jaw Pain

Your jaw joint may be causing you pain, not just in the joint itself but in the areas surrounding it. This is because the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects the jaw and skull, and it has the ability to impact the entire head and neck. If you are suffering from the symptoms of TMJ disorder, schedule an appointment with Dr. Carolina Giraldo for diagnosis and treatment.

For relief from TMJ pain, schedule a consultation with Dr. Giraldo for diagnosis and information on treatment options. Our bilingual staff will help you set a convenient appointment with our doctor.

Treatments for Jaw Pain

Dr. Giraldo may initially recommend palliative home therapies, such as anti-inflammatory medication, warm compresses, and facial muscle stretches. For more severe cases of TMJ problems, cortisone shots or other injectables may be required. Additionally, because TMJ disorder can be attributed to teeth grinding and bite misalignment, Dr. Giraldo may also utilize the following:

  • Teeth Grinding/Bruxism Prevention – A nightguard can be custom made for your comfort, in order to keep you from grinding your teeth while you sleep. Bruxism is one of the known contributors to TMJ concerns and one of the easiest to correct.
  • Occlusal Adjustment – When your teeth no longer rest comfortably together, it may be the result of misalignment due to changes in the way your teeth fit when they close. This can occur after a new restoration is placed. When a crown or filling is higher than your natural tooth was, it creates a point of interference that causes misalignment and subsequently, jaw pain. Bite misalignment can also result from changes in tooth structure due to teeth grinding. Dr. Giraldo can reshape the chewing surfaces of the teeth so that they fit together properly, easing the symptoms of misalignment.
